Exfoliating is the most popular GP skin trick, and it really works. One of the easiest ways to add shine, cleanse your skin, minimize the appearance of sun damage, and keep your complexion beautiful is with regular exfoliation. Removing dead skin cells, dirt, pollution, and makeup residue not only has the immediate benefit of thoroughly cleaning your pores so your skin looks more radiant and feels silky to the touch. It also allows any serums, treatments, and moisturizers you use afterward to penetrate deeper and work more effectively. Whether you exfoliate daily or a few times a week depends on your skin type and its sensitivity, but almost all skin can benefit from a combination of physical and chemical exfoliation.

Both chemical and physical peels remove dead skin cells and other debris and accelerate cell turnover, making your skin fresher, brighter and clearer, with minimized pores and a smoother surface. The difference is that chemical peels use acids or enzymes to dissolve and loosen the cells, while physical peels
Scrubs – products with small particles or any type of textured surface, such as
Washcloths – work by scrubbing off dead skin and grime. The two approaches actually
complement each other when used correctly, optimize cell turnover for smoothing, polishing and
retexture your skin.

It’s important to note that it is possible to overdo it whether you are using physical, chemical, or both types of exfoliators. Too much exfoliation removes the skin’s protective barrier, making it prone to sun damage, dryness, and even infection. For example, before or after using GOOPGLOW Overnight Peel, which is available in two strengths, you don’t want to use any other peel for at least 24 hours (and up to a week, depending on your skin sensitivity): 15% (for experienced peels) and 5% (for sensitive skin) as it is (brilliantly) super powerful. Likewise, on a day that you used the GOOPGLOW Microderm face scrub, you’d avoid a daily treatment like Tata Harper’s amazing Elixir Vitae or Goop’s deep blue G.Tox skin tonic (both contain chemical peels).
To find the perfect exfoliating balance for your skin, take it slow at first. Never use a product more often than recommended (the peel pads should only be used once a week; for example, Microderm can be done up to three times a week) and never layer products in the same session. As your skin gets used to the exfoliation, you may be able to increase the frequency with which you use some products, but once your skin feels irritated or irritated, reduce it again. Once you’ve found the sweet spot for your skin, the results should be noticeable – smoother, brighter, fresher, and clearer, with a shimmer that just doesn’t stop.
