Small business owners are set to benefit from a three-day virtual entrepreneurship exhibition starting today, January 19th at 6:00 p.m. via jsifexpo.org.
The event is held in partnership with the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) under the European Union (EU) funded Poverty Reduction Program (PRP), which is currently in its fourth phase, and the Flow Foundation.
JSIF Managing Director Omar Sweeney said the show will showcase products from the 30 small companies originally targeted under the JSIF-PRP.
“We really did develop an online streaming event that shows the 30 companies we are targeting. In addition, we have also managed to gain the support of our critical executives who are providing their time, knowledge and expertise online, ”said Sweeney.
He said the presentations will be held on a TED Talk forum where presenters can “give quick nuggets for business people to hold on to.”
Mr. Sweeney also indicated that the focus areas include sports, entertainment, production, youth training and development, among others.
He noted that the event is open to other small business owners, not just those who are already part of the program.
“We are very pleased that we were able to use the resources, use the innovation and really come up with something that goes beyond the 30 companies we have operated so far. I think that way we can use international resources, government resources and private resources to really help a large number of people, ”said Sweeney.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Marianne Van Steen, Head of the European Union Delegation in Jamaica, applauded JSIF for the work they had done and encouraged everyone to get involved in the virtual fair.
“I know that it will be really important for those who are watching to actually learn something,” she said.
For her part, Kayon Mitchell, executive director of the Flow Foundation, said that Flow provided more than $ 1.5 million in both cash and in-kind contributions.
“We are happy to be on board. We are excited to be supporting this show with both our technology and the support we offer. Additionally, by providing the grants and support we will be providing to the lucky individuals selected during this fair and beyond, “she said.
