The focus on human resource management within the management major at Illinois State University has been recognized by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) for achieving its curriculum standards. As of this press release, Illinois State University’s Bachelor of Science in Management with a major in Human Resource Management is one of 189 traditional undergraduate programs around the world that adhere to the organization’s educational standards as outlined in their HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates.

Illinois State University programs are fully compliant with SHRM guidelines for HR curriculum. The adjustment period for this renewal is January 2021 to December 2026.

Worldwide, SHRM has recognized over 500 programs in approximately 425 educational institutions as compliant with the proposed guides and templates. The HR curriculum guide and templates were developed by SHRM to define the minimum areas of HR content that should be studied by HR students in elementary and higher education. The guidelines, created in 2006 and re-validated in 2010, 2013 and 2017, are part of SHRM’s academic initiative to define standards for HR education taught in university business schools and to help universities develop Support courses of study that follow these standards.

The HR curriculum guide and templates define the minimum areas of HR content that should be studied by primary and higher education HR students. SHRM’s academic initiative was launched to clarify and define HR educational standards in university business schools. The standards serve as a means of supporting program development and, most importantly, as an agreed set of general competencies.

The Society for Personnel Management (SHRM) is the world’s largest association for personnel management. The organization serves the needs of HR professionals and promotes the interests of the HR profession. SHRM represents more than 300,000 HR experts worldwide.
