UPPER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP, PA. – Police are investigating a possible situation with active shooters in Upper Macungie Township, Pennsylvania, according to several news outlets.

The Pennsylvania State Police informed the WFMZ that a “serious police incident” had taken place in the Wawa supermarket on Route 100 and Schantz Road at around 6 a.m. on Wednesday. At least one person was rushed to a nearby hospital with injuries after a shooter described as a white man wearing a black and red hoodie opened fire, the Morning Call reported, citing police radio.

One person was later arrested outside the Brookside Children’s Early Education Center, a daycare center, the newspaper said.

At 8:40 a.m., there was no threat to the public, Trooper Nathan Branosky, Pennsylvania State Police information officer for Troop M, told The Morning Call.

Businesses have been blocked and roads in the area have been closed as authorities investigated. The authorities told the drivers to stay away from the area.

Route 100 between Interstate 78 and Industrial Boulevard is currently completely closed, and Schantz Road is also closed.

Upper Macungie Police and other agencies, including the Pennsylvania State Police and Lehigh County’s Emergency Response Team, remain at the scene, the Morning Call reported. According to the newspaper, the authorities are planning a press conference this morning.
