England in India 2021: Jofra Archer misses ODI collection and begin of IPL with elbow damage

Jofra Archer (right) missed two of England’s most recent Tests in India but played a full role in the five-game Twenty20 series.

Jofra Archer will miss England’s one-day streak against India and the start of the Indian Premier League next month due to his ongoing elbow problem.

The fast bowler will return home to investigate the problem further. The Cricket Board (ECB) of England and Wales says it did during the Five-match T20 series.

Lancashire weirdo Matt Parkinson is in the squad after being a T20 reserve.

The two teams will meet on Tuesday in the first of a series of three games in Pune.

The 25-year-old Archer will play for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League from April 9th to May 30th.

“Jofra’s elbow problem has worsened over the course of the Twenty20 International series, making it increasingly difficult for him to maintain the level of performance,” the ECB said in a statement.

“The ECB’s medical team will assess the player and work with Jofra to develop a treatment plan and return to game schedule in due course. As a result, Jofra will miss the start of this year’s Indian Premier League.”

English Test captain Joe Root was rested while compatriot Chris Woakes was left out.

Batsman Dawid Malan and fast bowlers Jake Ball and Chris Jordan were named as reserves.

Archer’s ongoing elbow fights

Archer is expected to play a key role for England in all formats in 2021 – a year that includes five home tests against India, a T20 World Cup and the Ashes in Australia.

He has regularly struggled with an elbow injury since his international debut in 2019. In early 2020, he missed three tests on the England tour of England and the T20 series that followed.

Last month he played India in the first and third Tests but was excluded from the second and fourth.

He played a full role in the subsequent T20 series but said after losing Saturday’s fifth T20 in Ahmedabad, captain Eoin Morgan that Archer’s injury “got worse” and “needs attention”.
