For 4th straight day, India reviews greater than Four lakh instances

India continued to report more than 4 lakh-covid cases per day, with 4,03,738 people testing positive in the past 24 hours through Sunday morning, bringing the total number of active cases in the country to 37,36,648. Over the same period, 4,092 succumbed to the virus infection, bringing the total number of Covid-19 deaths to 2,42,362. The total number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in India is close to 2.23 crore, of which over 1.83 crore has recovered to date.

According to the Health Department on Sunday, 10 states reported 71.75 percent of the new cases, with Maharashtra recording the highest daily new cases at 56,578, followed by Karnataka with 47,563 and Kerala with 41,971 new cases.

The country’s active caseload is among the highest in the world. In terms of the total number of reported cases, India ranks second after the US and recently outnumbered Brazil in deaths from coronavirus infection, as seen from the Center for Systems Science and Technology (CSSE )’s Covid-19 dashboard Johns Hopkins University.

The government has provided 17.56 crore anti-covid puffs to states for free, of which total consumption including waste is 16.83,78,796 doses, according to the ministry. “The states / UTs to be administered still have more than 72 lakh Covid vaccine doses (72,42,014) available. Negative balance states have more consumption (including waste) than vaccines because they failed to reconcile the vaccine they supplied to the armed forces, ”said a statement on Sunday. It added that states will receive more than 46 lakh doses of vaccine within the next three days.

States and UTs have so far given 16,94,39,663 doses of vaccine, of which 20,23,532 were given in the past 24 hours. In the 18-44 age group, 2,94,912 beneficiaries received their first dose of COVID vaccine today and a cumulative 17,84,869 in 30 states / UTs over the past 24 hours. As part of its liberalized phase 3 vaccination campaign, the government opened vaccination for people between the ages of 18 and 44 from May 1st.

“To date, more than 30.22 crore tests have been performed nationwide, while the daily positivity rate is 21.64 percent,” the government said. In the meantime a total of 18,65,428 tests were carried out the day before.

The government said on Sunday that the global aid it has received in fighting the pandemic. The main items the country received on May 8th are from Canada, Thailand, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, Israel, the United States, Japan, Malaysia, the United States (GILEAD), the United States (Salesforce), and of the Indian community in Thailand. Items included oxygen concentrators (2,404), remdesivir vials (25,000), ventilators (218), and test kits (6,92,208).

Mucormycosis Advice

Meanwhile, the government also released a notice regarding the treatment of mucormycosis, a fungal disease that affects people who take drugs for other health problems. The disease, which can be fatal if left untreated, usually occurs in Covid-19 patients who have comorbidities, stay in intensive care longer, and take immunosuppressive drugs as part of treatment. In addition to listing dos and don’ts for such patients, the Advisory has provided detailed guidelines for clinical management of medical professionals.
