According to data from the Union Ministry of Health, updated on Monday, new cases of coronavirus infections were registered in India over 18,000 for the third day in a row, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 1,12,29,398. Active cases also rose for the sixth consecutive year, and the active COVID-19 case count rose to 1,88,747, which is now 1.68 percent of total infections.
The recovery rate has continued to drop to 96.91 percent, the data said. A total of 18,599 new infections were registered in one day, while the death toll rose to 1,57,853, with 97 new deaths every day, data updated at 8 a.m. showed.
On January 29, 18,855 new infections were registered within 24 hours. The number of people who have recovered from the disease rose to 1,08,82,798, which equates to a national COVID-19 recovery rate of 96.91 percent, while the death rate is 1.41 percent.
India’s COVID-19 tally exceeded the 20 lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16, 80 lakh on October 29, and 90 lakh on October 20 November and passed the one-crore mark on December 19th.
According to the ICMR, by March 7th, 22:19,68,271 samples were tested, with 5,37,764 samples being tested on Sunday. The 97 new deaths include 38 from Maharashtra, 17 from Punjab and 13 from Kerala.
A total of 1,57,853 deaths have been reported in the country so far, including 52,478 from Maharashtra, followed by 12,518 from Tamil Nadu, 12,362 from Karnataka, 10,921 from Delhi, 10,278 from West Bengal, 8,737 from Uttar Pradesh and 7,174 from Andhra Pradesh.
The Ministry of Health emphasized that more than 70 percent of deaths were due to comorbidities. “Our numbers are being brought into line with India’s Medical Research Council,” the ministry said on its website, adding that the state distribution of the numbers is subject to further review and approval.
