Institute for Life Science Entrepreneurship at Kean University introduces Biotech LaunchPad to support startups
UNION, NJ – The Institute for Life Science Entrepreneurship (ILSE) at Kean University developed the Biotech LaunchPad, a comprehensive suite of business and scientific services to support the commercial success of life science startups. This new resource for scientists, clinicians, and entrepreneurs gives early-stage life science companies flexibility in choosing services to support their growth and development.
“We work with startup founders to review the science and intellectual property fundamentals of their new businesses,” said Keith Bostian, Ph.D., chief executive officer of ILSE and dean of the New Jersey Center for Science, Technology and Mathematics at Kean University. “Based on the state of the art in technology and the company, we actively support a range of business, science, and product development strategies, including quoting.”
Biotech LaunchPad customers can select business support services that include startup assistance. Establishment of an administrative board and a scientific advisory board; Preparation of stock plans, corporate contracts and legal agreements; Generation of angels, seeds and grants; and more.
“Startups face many challenges, especially for founders who are first trying to navigate a life science product through uncharted waters,” said Thomas Richardson, Ph.D., President of ILSE. “The customized support and service from Biotech LaunchPad is tailored to the specialist knowledge and know-how of the founding team. We’ve taken startups to the next level, including funding, product development, and team building. “
Over the past three years, ILSE has helped 16 founders and early-stage companies win over 20 awards totaling $ 16 million for Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and other National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants and foundations said Richardson. A key resource is ILSE’s scientific team and its state-of-the-art laboratories in Kean’s STEM building, where experiments can be conducted to demonstrate proof-of-concept in support of grants and fundraisers.
The services of the Biotech LaunchPad also include access to a large network of companies and consultants in all areas of life science start-up development.
ILSE offers flexible terms for services – from discounted or deferred interest rates to equity – intended for the development of the company and the investment of resources in ILSE.
