Durant has not played since February due to an injury

Two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant has apologized for the language he used in a social media exchange with actor and comedian Michael Rapaport.

Rapaport has shared pictures of private messages sent to him by the Brooklyn Nets Forward, including homophobic and misogynistic language.

The NBA fined Durant $ 50,000 (£ 36,150) Friday for using “abusive and derogatory language on social media”.

“I’m sorry people saw the language I was using,” said Durant, 32.

“That’s not what people should see or hear from me, but hopefully I can get around it and get out.”

Brooklyn Nets coach Steve Nash said the incident was brought up in a private conversation with Durant, 2014’s Most Valuable Player.
