This year, Latvia will hold the national finals of the Entrepreneurship World Cup for the first time, Latvian radio reported on April 27th.
The winner of the Latvian national final will compete for the global final.
The Entrepreneurship World Cup (EWC) is an opportunity for startups and new companies founded no more than five years ago to compete among representatives from over 200 countries to prove their company’s competitiveness on a global scale.
The national final of the EWC in Latvia is organized by Swedbank together with the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LTRK), the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA), TechChill and the Latvian Association for Social Enterprises.
Swedbank representative Jānis Krops said the jury will evaluate the development potential for an idea, product or service – how interesting it can be on a global level because ideas can be useful on a local level, but not globally. In addition, the transparency of the business model is assessed so that it is clear how the idea can get onto the market.
The winner of the national final will have the opportunity to learn, gain experience and win a cash prize of approximately half a million dollars, build international visibility and meet potential investors. The rest of the national finalists will receive individual advice on growth-related areas. The winner of the national final will also have the opportunity to participate in the virtual accelerator “EWC Accelerates” of the competition, which will take place in August and September. The company will successfully demonstrate and acquire the right to represent Latvia in the global finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It will compete among the top 100 finalists for a total prize fund of USD 1 million, plus additional investment opportunities and USD 750,000 for support.
Applications are possible until May 24th. You can find the application here.
