Make investments Newark’s Bernel Corridor to Develop into NJ Neighborhood Capital President and CEO

New Jersey Community Capital (NJCC) announced that Bernel Hall, Head of Invest Newark, will join the organization as President and CEO. A former investment banker, public housing manager, and real estate financer, Hall brings 23 years of management and finance experience with a passion for business growth, job creation and wealth creation for underserved communities.

Hall succeeds Wayne Meyer, who stepped down in June 2021 after a 12-year career with NJCC. Hall takes up his role on October 25th. Jacki Robinson will act as interim president and CEO until then.

“Our board of directors is excited to welcome Bernel Hall into the organization as we enter the next era of creative funding solutions and community development projects in the underserved neighborhoods of New Jersey,” said CEO Alle Ries. “Bernel has the public and private skills and background to make NJCC an even bigger, more successful organization that makes a lasting impact in the communities in which we operate.”

As an alumnus of the Coro Fellowship, the leadership of Hall is characterized by a commitment to public service. At Invest Newark, Hall was instrumental in founding the state’s only land bank, a community-funded fiber optic company, an employee-owned paper company, and an infrastructure mutual fund managed with New Jersey Community Capital. He began his career as an investment banker at Bank of America and then at UBS Investment Bank and Goldman Sachs’ Urban Investment Group. He was also a Senior Portfolio Manager at the New York City Housing Authority and is a board member of the Hudson County Economic Development Corporation at.

Hall earned a BS in business administration from North Carolina State University and an MBA from Harvard University.

“I am grateful and honored to accept the position as President and Chief Executive Officer. Clearly, New Jersey Community Capital is a leader with a well-deserved reputation for lending and community development. Given the organization’s extremely talented team and a history of strong partnerships, I believe we have the potential to reach even greater heights in the years to come, ”said Hall.

The board voted 10-1 for Hall’s appointment after a six-month national search process. “The committee knew that Bernel’s transformative leadership, business acumen, and passion for community development would be invaluable to NJCC. As the organization progresses, the board is confident that Hall is the right person to lead the outstanding team at NJCC into the next chapter, ”said Ries.
