NORTH ADAMS – Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts senior Austin Miller was selected to receive first prize of $ 7,500 in the MCLA Innovation & Entrepreneurship Challenge. The winners were largely selected through votes from the larger MCLA community May 3-7.

Miller was the first to finish his Get Hooked Bait & Tackle business idea. Senior colleague Latisha Hargrett received second prize of $ 5,000 for her “Strong Shoulders” suggestion, while Senior Lorenzo Cristofolini received US $ 1,000 for third place for his “Cristo’s Consulting” idea.

The prize money was given for start-up funding to cover inventory, equipment and marketing costs for the three new companies. The five finalists presented their ideas via video.

The assessment was made by three votes from North Adams Mayor Tom Bernard and Zoar Outdoor founder Bruce Lessels and 332 votes from the MCLA community.
