Mike Lindell, CEO of MyPillow, who has repeatedly made false claims that President Donald Trump did not lose the election, said retailers like Bed Bath & Beyond and Kohl’s are removing his company’s products from their stores.
Trump’s supporters on social media platforms are now calling for boycotts of retailers while other consumers are urging people not to buy MyPillow products.
“I just got off the phone with Bed Bath & Beyond,” Lindell said during a Monday night interview with the Right Side Broadcasting Network. “You’re dropping MyPillow.”
“I was on the phone – less than five minutes ago. Kohls, all these different places. … These people don’t understand,” he continued. “They’re scared. Like a Bed Bath & Beyond, they’re scared. They were good partners. In fact, I told them, ‘You come back whenever you want.'”
Representatives from Kohl’s and Bed Bath & Beyond did not immediately respond to CNBC’s requests for comment.
A search by CNBC of both the retailer’s websites Tuesday morning found MyPillow merchandise still available for sale. MyPillow continues to be sold at JC Penney, Amazon, Belk, and a few other major retailers.
Lindell has come under fire for spreading conspiracy theories. For example, last year he promoted a false cure for Covid. More recently, he said that there was widespread electoral fraud in the 2020 elections.
Dominion Voting Systems officials have now sent Lindell a legal letter warning of pending litigation over his unsubstantiated claims of widespread fraud involving their machines, according to a New York Times report. Lindell was not immediately available to respond to CNBC’s request for comment on the letter.
Last week, Lindell was seen visiting the White House carrying partially obscured notes instructing Trump to invoke “martial law” if necessary.
Following Lindell’s interview in which he referred to Bed Bath & Beyond and Kohl’s, users on Twitter are urging other retailers like Walmart to drop MyPillow as well.
The nation’s largest retailer recently suspended its Political Action Committee’s donations to the campaigns of Congressional Republicans opposed to confirming President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
