As part of an effort to empower women and ensure they care for themselves and their families while contributing to Guyana’s development, a new incubator and mobile app have been launched to promote women-led entrepreneurship.
The incubator and app were both launched Monday morning at the Guyana Women’s Leadership Institute in Cove and John on the east coast of Demerara.
This incubator is an extension of the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security’s efforts under its Innovation and Investment Network for Women (WIIN) program.
This WIIN program has enabled a number of women and some men to benefit from professional development and qualifications in various areas.

<p>“We saw a lot of innovative projects by some of these women,” said Dr. Vindhya Persaud, Minister for Human Services and Social Security, at the opening of the incubator on Monday.</p>
<p>“It’s not just about training and women, what’s next? Do you train them and let them? Absolutely not.”</p>
<p>As such, the incubator was conceived and created.</p>
<p>This incubator, she explained, will enable every woman to get support in starting her business, to take care of the quality control of her products and to benefit from “practical help” in other areas.</p>
<p>It is also important that the incubator should enable women entrepreneurs to consider expanding their business beyond Guyana.</p>
<p>“… we want women to think that they are not only producing for their home here in our beautiful country Guyana, but for the whole world,” said Dr. Persaud.</p>
<p>For this reason, a “WIIN” mobile app was launched. This app aims to enable women to market their products and services.</p>
