Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the famous Meenakshi Amman Temple in that city on Thursday and offered prayers.

Modi was dressed in traditional “veshti” (dhoti), shirt and “angavastram” during his visit, the Tamil Nadu BJP said on its official Twitter handle.

Pictures were also shared by Modi, speaking here on Friday ahead of an NDA election rally that was received by temple priests who had bestowed the honor of “Poorna Kumbha” on him.

The Prime Minister drove to the temple on the road.

Modi is expected to speak to public meetings in Madurai and Kanyakumari on April 2 to support NDA candidates.

Elections to 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu are scheduled for April 6, and the BJP, in alliance with the ruling AIADMK, faces the election.

BJP also denies the Kanyakumari Lok Sabha-by-poll that became necessary due to the death of Congressman H. Vasantha Kumar, who died of Covid-19 last year.

BJP leader and former Union minister Pon Radhakrishnan is the party candidate for by-poll.
