Participants learn how to empower their subordinates, improve their thinking skills, and build the values of the company beyond the walls of the hospital. This program is an excellent idea for training in-service leaders in acute health facilities. However, further research is required to evaluate its effectiveness.

Participants completed the questionnaire before and after the program. Sixty-two per cent of them completed the questionnaire. Four of the seven aspects of leadership were significantly improved by participants. The LEF was developed by Murphy (1992), measured confidence in leadership. Overall, participants’ scores were significantly higher after the program. They scored higher in three areas than they did prior to the training program. The tests were standardized and administered by certified personnel. The results of this study are encouraging.

A follow-up study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the program. In this study, CV graduates were compared with non-graduates in order to gauge their leadership behavior. The results showed that CV graduates have shown a significant improvement in rural leadership in North Carolina.
