According to a February 2020 study by Google and Bain & Company, women-owned businesses make up 20 percent of all businesses in the country – which is roughly 13.5 to 15.7 million women-run businesses.
Despite these encouraging numbers and growth, various restrictions continue to prevent women entrepreneurs from reaching their full potential, including mentoring, access to money, and more. If these gaps are closed, another statistic in the study may say that if female entrepreneurship is accelerated, it can lead to the creation of over 30 million women-owned businesses and over 150 million new jobs.
As Michele Obama put it, “No country can ever truly prosper if it suppresses the potential of its women and deprives itself of the contributions of half its citizens.” The time has come for the startup ecosystem and its various stakeholders to accelerate local women entrepreneurship.
YES Bank, one of India’s largest private banks, has partnered with Sheroes to provide opportunity for women entrepreneurs with YES Essence Plus, an accelerator program for early-stage women entrepreneurs. This program was launched under YES Essence, a holistic banking offering for women in all customer segments – housewives, employees, entrepreneurs and seniors. YES Essence was unveiled on March 8th, International Women’s Day.
This 10-week accelerator program is aimed exclusively at women entrepreneurs in the early stages of their startup journey with access to mentors, meetings of industry experts, networking opportunities, and more. Applications are now open! click Here to apply for the program
