After Baton Rouge Entrepreneurship Week 2020 started due to the COVID pandemic and held mainly as a virtual event in January, it will return as a face-to-face event from October 4-6.

“We’re excited to be back for Baton Rouge,” said Wendy Overton, director of strategy and development for Nexus Louisiana, which is organizing the event. “This is a great opportunity to reconnect with the business community, get back together and share stories.”

This will be the 11th year for the event. Unlike in previous years, when BREW took place at locations across the city, this year it will take place entirely in the Bon Carre Business Center. EdgePWR, the South Carolina company that bought the center in late 2020, wanted to use the conference to unveil its plans for the property and brand the space as a technology center. Bon Carre has tenants such as Louisiana Technology Park and Venyu, a data storage company.

The new owners of the Bon Carré Business Center expect about $ 10 million for the first phase of the renovation of the former mall.

“This creates a community and gives you a chance to see other people instead of hosting events far across town,” she said.

Another new highlight for BREW is an opening reception that will serve as an expo and networking event and showcase some of the most innovative companies in Baton Rouge.

But one familiar component of BREW will be back unchanged – the high stakes pitch competition. The contest will take place on October 6, and the winning company will receive $ 100,000 in funding from Innovation Catalyst and the Red Stick Angel Network.

To participate in the pitch competition, a company must be based in Louisiana, or be willing to relocate after winning, having less than $ 250,000 in revenue in 2020, as a limited liability company, S-Corporation, or C -Corporation and about growth business model with strong management team. Applications for the pitch competition must be submitted by August 24th.

The semi-finalists will be notified by August 27th and will take part in a closed pitch round on September 21st. Three teams will be selected to participate in the pitch competition.
