Sun Life also announces the appointment of new directors for election

TORONTO, March 25, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Sun Life Financial Inc. (TSX: SLF) (NYSE: SLF) (the “Company”) today announced that its annual general meeting and voting policyholder meeting of Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada registered for Wednesday May 5, 2021 is kept in a purely virtual format. The company also announced that its 2020 Annual Report and Annual Meeting Notice and Management Information Circular are now available.

Virtual annual meetings of shareholders and voting policyholders

Sun Life is doing its part to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus by holding its annual meetings in a purely virtual format again this year.

Shareholders and policyholders with voting rights have the opportunity to attend the meeting in real time, ask questions and vote on a number of important matters online, regardless of their location. Shareholders, voting policyholders, investors, or members of the public cannot attend the meeting in person.

Sun Life’s annual virtual meeting will take place Wednesday May 5, 2021 at the 17 o’clock ((Toronto Time) via live webcast at https://web.lumiagm.com/447957232 using the password “sunlife2021” (case-sensitive). For detailed instructions on how to attend the webcast and vote at the virtual meeting, see the Management Information Circular 2021, and policyholders who are eligible to vote should refer to the voting information brochure and their proxy or voting instruction form.

Shareholders and policyholders with voting rights are encouraged to vote in advance using one of the methods described in the 2021 Management Information Circular or, where applicable, the Policyholder Voting Brochure. Registered shareholders are asked to return their completed voting proxy or to cast their vote by the voting deadline on Monday, May 3, 2021 at the 17 o’clock ((Toronto Time). Policyholders who are entitled to vote are asked to return their proxy at the latest 17 o’clock ((Toronto time is running Wednesday April 28, 2021.

Election of new directors

The Management Information Circular contains the nominations of Deepak Chopra and David HY Ho for election to the company’s board of directors at the annual meeting.

Mr. Chopra is a corporate director and was previously President and Chief Executive Officer of Canada Post Corporation. He has over 30 years of global experience in the financial services, technology, logistics and supply chain industries. He currently serves on the boards of The Descartes Systems Group Inc., Celestica Inc., and The North West Company Inc. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada and has a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Honors) and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM).

Mr. Ho is the chairman and founder of Kiina Investment Limited, a venture capital company that invests in start-ups in the technology, media and telecommunications industries. He currently serves on the boards of Qorvo, Inc., Air Products & Chemicals, Inc., China COSCO Shipping Corporation, and DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited, a subsidiary of DBS Group Holdings. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Honors Systems Design Engineering) and a Master of Applied Science in Management Sciences.

At the end of the general meeting Sara Grootwassink Lewis and Hugh D. Segal will leave the Board of Directors.
