With the addition of 1,949 coronavirus cases, the number of infections in Thane district in Maharashtra rose to 2.84,317, an official said on Saturday.
These new cases were reported on Friday, he said.
When the virus claimed the lives of eight people, the death toll in the district rose to 6,370.
The district’s Covid-19 death rate is 2.24 percent, he added.
To date, 2,64,590 patients have recovered from the infection, bringing the recovery rate to 93.06 percent.
There are currently 13,357 active cases in the district, the official said.
In neighboring Palghar District, the number of cases in Covid-19 has risen to 47,200 while the death toll is 1,208, another official said.
The superintendent of an ashram school in Dabhosa in Palghars Jawhar died of complications from the infection while undergoing treatment in Nashik. He was among 79 out of three ashram schools in Jawhar that tested positive last week, a health official said.
