ROCK SPRINGS – Western Wyoming Community College has received approval to offer a fully online Bachelor of Applied Science in Business Management. The courses start on February 15th. The program still offers space and time for enrollment. Registration closes on February 17th at 5 p.m.

The Wyoming state’s postsecondary education goal is that 67% of 24-65 year olds will have valuable post-secondary diplomas by 2025. This led to a bill that allowed Wyoming Community Colleges to initiate accreditation processes for Bachelor of Applied Science degree programs. The bill was sponsored by Senator Tara Nethercott and signed into law by Governor Mark Gordon on March 15, 2019. On October 22, 2020, the Higher Learning Commission, the college’s accreditation body, polled Western’s BAS committee for the final review process.

“Western is excited to start its Bachelor of Science program. The institution has invested significant resources and worked closely with service employers to ensure this program meets our students’ needs and enables them to advance their careers, ”said Mark Rembacz, Vice President, Institutional Effectiveness, Western in a press release.

Western’s Bachelor of Applied Science provides those currently working in many different industries with the expertise to move into leadership roles. It can also help those looking to start their own business or provide the necessary background to pursue a new job. In addition, individuals can continue working and graduate at the same time – at a fraction of the cost of a four-year institution. The convenience of coursework from the comfort of their own home without in-person tuition gives students more time to spend with their families, according to the press release.

“Students can benefit from the flexibility of this program and incorporate coursework into their lives. As an instructor in this program, I hope to use and build on the life, work and previous academic experience of the students as a stepping stone to give them more confidence in their management and leadership skills. It’s exciting to think about the different perspectives people from different industries will bring to the virtual classroom, ”said Beth Gard, Instructor of Business at Western, in the press release.
