An innovative new program to promote young entrepreneurship is offered by La Ronges Community Futures Visions North.

The Side Hustle Microgrant Program is aimed at individuals between the ages of 15 and 29 and is designed to provide them with the skills to develop their own business plan. General Manager Bill Hogan stated that those who successfully complete all components of the program will receive $ 500 non-refundable funding to either expand an existing business or start a new one.

“I think the problem, and this is my personal view, is that a lot of people are looking at entrepreneurship as a fallback plan,” he said. “We want them to see entrepreneurship as an option along with any other career.”

Hogan mentioned that young people are an underrepresented demographic when it comes to entrepreneurship. He also said that anyone under the age of 18 cannot legally sign loans, which means a parent must do so on their behalf.
